creatively fun family of 6 portraits | atlanta family photographer

When a photographer contacts you about portraits of his family, this is the highest compliment! Not only is Charles a talented photographer himself, his wife Kristen is a self proclaimed critic of photography. You can only imagine my excitement when I heard from them about a family session this fall. I have seen beautiful portraits hung on the walls of their home and posted on their Facebook profiles, so I was beyond thrilled to be asked to document their family this year.

We decided to meet at the historic Roswell bridge at golden hour. Our session was pushed back by all the rain this fall, but that's beside the point. We scheduled a new time and it couldn't have been more perfect...we pretty much had Vickery Park all to ourselves!

With a family of 6 (3 of those being young boys) you would expect crazinesss! But no, this family was AMAZING. The boys were so well behaved, cooperative, and handsome, I couldn't have asked for more. Little miss Lillian, the S family's sweet baby, was beautiful, smiley, too adorable, and the star of the day.

I could not have asked for a more perfect family to photograph on this fall evening! I am flattered and honored, more than I can say, to have been able to capture your family this year, S family! Here are a few of my favorites from our time together...

I am beyond excited and HONORED that my image of little Olivia was chosen to be featured on a popular photography website blog. This image was an immediate favorite in the moment it was snapped, so when Clickin Moms asked for bokeh images I just knew that I had to submit it. There were over 300 entries and ONLY 29 were chosen by talented and award winning photographer, Megan Dill. I am thrilled to have my image included among so many other beautiful captures. gorgeous family of five | atlanta family photographer

Beautiful family, beautiful spirits, beautiful location. What more could we ask for?

Jen was referred to me by the t family, who's fall family photos I did a couple years back. When I met Jen I felt instantly connected to her on so many levels and I can't begin to describe how wonderful it is when that happens. To be brief, it's like photographing one of your lifelong friends. We have so much in common and I enjoyed learning about her family and desires for this photography session.

We met on a Sunday evening at the Big Creek Greenway and for the first time I met her gorgeous family. Beautiful. The kids were so sweet with each other, respectful, and fun. And Jen and Jon were amazing. Let's not forget Reese, the regal doggie, who was probably the most cooperative member of the session?? LOVE it.

Thank you, S family, for allowing me to capture images of your crew that will hopefully be cherished for a lifetime. Love, love, love you and wish many blessings on your family. <3

amazing family ~ extended family portraits | alpharetta family photographer

I met this amazing family almost four years ago. I can't say enough about how wonderful and welcoming they are to everyone they meet. This session happened because the kids knew how much their mom needed family photos so this was their gift for mother's day. How perfect was this to forever capture their extended family at this point in time?? My good friend Amanda, who's little family I have photographed many times from newborn to family portraits, is one of the daughters that organized this and I am so grateful for her friendship and how her family has made me feel so included every time I am around them. Each member of the S family has so much contagious personality and joy that you can't help but love life when you're around them. Thank you for allowing me the chance to spend an evening with your crew, enjoying and capturing the spunk and amazing connections that are so prevalent in your lives! Enjoy this sneak peek of our time together!

One Year Session | Johns Creek Baby Photographer

Miss Avery is ONE!!!
Miss Avery is ONE!!! This was my first session back from maternity leave. I cannot tell you how excited I was to be back photographing these adorable kids  We met at a beautiful park in Johns Creek. The weather was absolutely perfect too!

Avery, her big brother Luke, and big sister Addison were too cute together. I loved my evening with them! I brought my 6 week old newborn Ryan as my “assistant” to the session and Avery NEEDED to have him. It was the most precious thing ever. Mom snuggled Ryan while I did the shoot. Then every time she walked away, Avery would reach her arms out and squeal for them to come back. At first we thought Miss Avery just wanted mom but later figured out she has a baby obsession. Might be time for baby Adams #4 ??? Right Amber?

Adams family, I had a blast with your children and hope that you enjoy these images! Happy 1st Birthday Avery!!!

family of 6 ~ 4 siblings | johns creek family photographer

I love photographing big families! This one was no exception. Melissa and I became fast friends through church and boys love playing together. She loves taking photos of her kids so I was honored that she asked me to do their family portraits this year! Because I know how important images are to her<3

We met on a warm december afternoon at a park in johns creek. I love the lighting in this field and we got some pretty amazing images of their family of 6. One reason big families are so fun because they always have the best time together...joking and laughing and teasing one another. All of that happened on this evening!

I hope you can see how your love for each other shows through these images, S family! Enjoy a sneak peek of our evening together!

2.20.2015
It's so hard to make yourself get in front of the camera when you're the one making the pictures happen. When my mom was in town to help, I was determined to get some shots with my boys. As moms, we may not love how we look (especially after giving birth!) but I know when I look back on these, I will be so thankful that I got in the frame. This is already one of my favorite photos so far this year.

2.21.2015
Learning to take the paci. We had these elephant wubbanubs with jack, so had to stock up on some new one for Ryan.

2.23.2015
Had to capture our favorite newborn outfit of Ryan's before this big boy outgrows it!

Ryan's first "snow." I guess we should call it his first snowfall since nothing ended up sticking over here.

Project 365 | Week 3 | January 15-21, 2015 | Johns Creek, GA Family Photographer

Week three of project 365!
Some everyday adventures, some out of the ordinary. But a fun week to capture!

My new assistant. We were picking out paint colors for baby's room at Home Depot and Jack insisted on "helping" me take a picture. Now he does this almost every day!

So many good photos from the birthday party at INK today, I had such a hard time choosing... but finally settled on these because:

1. It was Millie's bday at ink
2. Our friend, Joel, makes the 365 pic
3. Michael covering Madeleine's mouth as she was trying to help blow out Millie's candle...lol
4. Jack and Millie's cousin are "helping" her blow the candle
5. (Pic #2) Jack stuffing his face with birthday cake- something we recently discovered that he loves!

Hopefully our last grocery trip before baby!

38 weeks. Comparing bellies.

My little assistant loves trips to the post office to mail photo orders.
Jack has been loving trips to the post office for about a year and a half now. He loves to put packages in the big door and knows the process of weighing and stamping first. I had to capture this moment of one of his favorite things.

A day in the life of a little superman... flying, preschool, napping...
These velcro cape tshirts are the cutest invention ever! I have been getting them in every size from Gap since started walking. He obviously loves them!

12|365 One last mommy and Jackie outing...visiting the aquarium on Monday morning!

13|365 Garbage day is still so thrilling! But if they don't notice Jack watching and fail to honk at him, he gets very offended:/ This was a good day though, honks and waves all around!

Project 365 | Week 1 - January 1-7, 2015 | Johns Creek, Alpharetta, GA Family Photographer

This year I have decided to embark on a Project 365... a photo a day for an entire year. I have been wanting to complete one of these personal projects for a couple years now, but finally felt the true motivation and desire to do it in 2015! With our new addition of baby brother at the end of this month, I know I'll have lots of great subject matter.

I hope to mostly capture each day with my d800 as a way of refining and expanding my photography skills but there may be some iPhone shots sprinkled throughout. So please excuse the quality of those few! Day 2 and Day 7 of this first week are iPhone captures - day 2 because I left my memory cards at home and day 7 because the moment happened and I only had my phone:)

Follow me on instagram and my personal Facebook to see daily shares. Search #ortonproject365 on instagram for the full project in progress. And follow me on my photography Facebook page where I'll link to my weekly blog posts!

family of five fall photos | Johns Creek Family Photographer

Meet the Doldo's! My beautiful friend, Faith, and all her handsome boys! Their oldest son and my Jack are big buddies so I knew what an adorable personality the little man had and the twins couldn't be cuter if they tried!

Faith's husband, Neil, works as the fitness director at the Atlanta Athletic Club, so when Faith mentioned that location as an option, I knew we HAD to go for it. Nothing like a private photo session for your family of five on the golf course! Their perfectly coordinated outfits totally made the session. I had so much fun photographing your family, Faith and Neil, and hope you will enjoy the images for many years to come!

family of four photos | brookhaven family photographer

I can't say enough wonderful things about this family of four and their fall photo session. They are some of my favorite people in Atlanta. I met them through church when their oldest was just a baby and even visited the hospital when their son was born. They are always so enjoyable to talk to and their kids are the best and so much fun.

We met on a beautiful weekday afternoon at a park in Buckhead, one that I had been anxious to try out for some time now. It was absolutely gorgeous and the perfect setting for their family pictures. Mom coordinated their outfits so perfectly and they look amazing! I just love how the images turned out. Take a peek....

gender reveal - spring baby, pink or blue? | Johns Creek Maternity Photographer

My beautiful friend, Sarah, contacted me after finding out the gender of her baby and wanted to do a special photo shoot for Van, Sarah and Chad's son. I was instantly excited about this idea and knew how sweet Van has been about his mommy being pregnant and wanting to know if his sibling would be a boy or a girl. I couldn't wait to witness the big reveal!

It's a girl!!!! Van was adorable and giddy with excitement over his soon to be baby sister! I couldn't be more thrilled for my sweet friend and her family. This baby girl is so blessed to have  a big brother like Van and such awesome parents, too:) Thank you, Chad and Sarah, for letting me be part of the big reveal!

one year old boy photos | Atlanta Family Photographer

This little boy couldn't have been more adorable for his one year photos! I've met his momma through a mutual friend and have gotten to know her a little bit through social events. I was thrilled when she contacted me about a session for Jackson and the rest of the family.

We met on a perfectly sunny afternoon and little guy was in a great mood and a joy to photograph. The rest of his family was so much fun and you can really see through these images that Jackson is one loved little boy.

C family, I hope these images captured your little love exactly how you want to remember him at this cute stage in his life. He is one lucky boy to have the love of so many wonderful people!

sleepy nine day old baby | Atlanta Newborn Photographer

This beautiful boy was a dream to photograph. When I arrived he was wide awake and fought falling asleep so hard. I could tell that he didn't want to miss out on whatever was going to happen with a visitor in his house! Once he settled into sleep, he slept so deeply and allowed me to move him into all kinds of adorable poses, wraps, and hats. It was a wonderful session. I loved photographing JD and loved getting to know his mama during this session!

Thank you Melanie and Nate for asking me to capture these precious early days of JD's life. He is a doll baby and I hope you enjoy watching him grow!

Family Photos by the Lake | Johns Creek Family Photographer

I have to say that this is probably the coolest sessions, scenery-wise that I've done to date! It had been raining all day and we were worried that we'd have to reschedule, which is super difficult with extended family sessions since each family has its own busy schedule. Thankfully, the rain went away JUST in time!

We met at Buford Dam, which my friend and former co-worker, Angie, had picked for their session. It was beautiful when we toured it a few weeks before the session but we couldn't have planned it on a day with this fog coming off the river if we tried! We also hopped across the street and did a few shots at Lake Lanier.

Thank you so much, Smith family, for allowing me to capture your family this year and preserve memories with you!

tiny newborn angel | Alpharetta Newborn Photographer

I was thrilled when this sweet family asked to do newborn photos for their new addition. The Giambrones are close friends of my in-laws so I had heard how excited they were to welcome a new baby girl into their family. And my Jack and their Evan have spent some time playing together on a couple different occasions, so I also knew what a sweet big brother Evan would be!

Our session was wonderful. Tiny Miss Mary slept like an angel and we got lost of family and sibling shots during our time together as well!

Thank you so much, G family, for the opportunity to capture this sweet and magical time in your lives! I hope you will cherish these memories forever. Congratulations on your perfect baby girl!
